I’m currently in my room in the DoubleTree near Cigar City Brewery in Tampa, taking a break from the Cigar City Beer Hunahpu’s Release Day festivities.
When I left about 45 minutes ago, I’d estimate that there were about 100 or so wristbands left for those who wish to purchase bottles of the once-a-year release of the Mayan Chocolate Stout.
Fans of the brew started lining up early this morning. Cezar Vazquez drove up from Miami and was the first in line. He arrived at 5:35 a.m.
The Hunahpu’s bottles will go on sale starting at 6 p.m. for those with wristbands. At 9 p.m., if there are any unclaimed bottles left, they will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
There will be live music going on all day, and plenty of beers from Cigar City, as well as from other brewers, including some that are not available in Florida, such as Three Floyds from Munster, Indiana, and Founders Brewing from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
If you were thinking about heading down there, do so. Even if you don’t get a chance to buy the Hunahpu’s, there are plenty of fantastic brews available.
