Earlier this year, there was some discussion about creating a Florida Beer Week for 2012, with events throughout the state to promote its craft beer scene to the rest of the country – and the world. I supported this movement, mainly as a cheerleader at the time, but ready to jump in and do whatever I could do to help once the ball got rolling.
Well, that ball stopped, at least for 2012.
But Fresh Beer Inc., the craft beer arm of Brown Distributing Co. in South Florida, recently announced a South Florida Beer Week from January 23-29.
Fresh Beer has set up a website to keep track of events. Here’s what it says:
Well we know you haven’t seen it before because it’s the first year…you must be asking yourself, “What’s this all about?” Well for the first year we are helping to honor South Florida’s Beer Community, Craft Brewers and Craft Beer Lovers with a week devoted to all things Florida Beer all culminating in the biggest and best beer festival in Florida, The Jupiter Craft Brewers Fest. All together, South Florida’s Beer Community is working to bring you a week full of different events aimed at showing what South Florida Beer is all about. Stay tuned for more details on what’s going on and try to come out and help celebrate. Cheers!
So far the only events listed on the blog’s calendar are the Brewers Festival and the Field of Beers food pairing the night before, as well as a Holy Mackerel Beer Dinner on Tuesday, January 24 at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Coral Springs. (UPDATE: The Holy Mackerel Beer Dinner has been moved to Wednesday, February 1, at 7 p.m.).
Most beer weeks in other states and cities have a long list of events lined up and are announced much more in advance than this one has been, so I hope they can fill that calendar to the brim and help promote the craft beer scene in Florida to the rest of the nation.
