You would think that with ownership stakes in 14 restaurants and being the union rep for Tampa Bay Buccaneers players during turbulent labor negotiations, Jeff Faine would have little time to worry about putting nuts into people’s mouths while they’re drinking beer.

But according to an article in the St. Petersburg Times, the Bucs’ center now owns a part of Poppa D’s Nuts, a company based in Orlando.

According to the article, “Faine secured a 10 percent stake in Poppa D’s Nuts — the brainchild of USF grad and 35-year-old Orlando sportscaster Lee Goldberg — in return for promoting a beer nut line started on a shoestring and getting it sold in more places like arenas and stadiums.”

The nuts, currently served as finger food at World of Beer pubs and Faine’s restaurants, are also now available at 7-Elevens across Florida.

An interesting side note from the story: Faine reportedly is searching for a Tampa location to open his Barley House restaurant. Judging from the name, this might be an appealing eatery for craft beer geeks.

By the way, there is no “Poppa D.” It’s a play on words. Think “Pop-a-these nuts.”
