Brewery owner and founder Joey Redner describes the “Tropical Heatwave” beer as a “hoppy” American wheat ale.

“We are featuring a specialty hop from New Zealand called ‘Kohatu’ which features light pine notes and a lot of tropical fruit aromas,” Redner said. “It will be a great beer for a either a literal or a musical heat wave.”

The popular fundraiser features a variety of eclectic music and performers each year. This year’s acts include Chuck Prophet and Mission Express, The Bright Light Social Hour and a “Beach Goth” act from California with a name any craft beer fan would appreciate: The Growlers.

The concert will be Saturday, May 12, 2012, at various venues  in Ybor City, but the Tropical Heatwave beer will debut Tuesday, March 13, during WMNF Day at Whole Foods Tampa, 1548 N. Dale Mabry Highway.  Whole Foods Tampa is also a Tropical Heatwave sponsor, along with Creative Loafing.d

The beer will be available at Tampa Bay area stores, and of course at the concert.

“I am happy that local music can be enjoyed with local beer,” said Cigar City Vice President Justin Clark. “Consumers’ ears and taste buds will be rewarded.”
